Vehicles in Germany's Town Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Authorities reported they were notified by a resident who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.

Officials say preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A high-ranking official said the incident rendered him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
