The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Whenever a significant honors show approaches, you'll find an outcry to include additional classifications to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the spirits of enthusiasts with niche passions.

My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories actually cover many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked for anything in 2014
  • Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games count as the most-played games worldwide and have been for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
